Our Services: Units
With a variation of units within Crystal House, every individual who becomes a member is certain to find interest within the clubhouse. The Crystal House clubhouse is composed of the following units:
- Business/Orientation Unit
- Education/Employment Unit
- Kitchen/Snack Stop
In every unit members devote their day to learning, training, and developing skills. The objectives of these units are rehabilitation and recovery. Nobody is turned away from work regardless of their current skill level.

Our Services: Employment Opportunities
Employment is an important and integral part of recovering from mental illness. The Crystal House clubhouse is dedicated to providing every member with various employment opportunities within the community. More than just assigning members to job sites for an extra paycheck, the focus of our employment program is recovery. Therefore, every member will receive a clubhouse advocate, a goal plan, and is required to volunteer for the clubhouse.
There are three levels to clubhouse employment.
The first level is Transitional Employment. At this level members are trained onsite and at the employers' site of work by a clubhouse placement manager. Members are supported throughout their job experience.
After six-to-nine months members may move on to a less supervised site, moving from transitional employment to Supported Employment. In supported employment, members are supported in their jobs. The main differences between transitional employment and supported employment are that clubhouse employees are trained by employers, and they are held accountable to their job as any other employee. Supported employment is not time-sensitive in that members are employed in accordance with the time an employer chooses to employ them.
The third level of employment is, Independent Employment. At the independent level, members are solely accountable to the employer in regards to their position and receive no on-site work support from the clubhouse. Members who are working independently continue to have available all clubhouse supports and opportunities including advocacy for entitlements and assistance with financial, legal, and personal issues, as well as participation in evening and weekend programs.

Our Services: Training
Each member is offered the opportunity for training in various areas within our three units of the clubhouse. Theses areas include but are not limited to: clerical, kitchen, maintenance, and retail skills. The clubhouse is committed to providing any training necessary for our members to continue their education or get back to the work force. If the clubhouse cannot directly provide the training, then we will research outside sources to get members the help that they need.
Our Services: Unit Coordinator Opportunities
The Crystal House provides the position for two unit coordinators in each of our three units.
The Business Unit has a coordinator that oversees all the statistics, reception, and clerical components with the help of the unit members.
The other coordinator oversees the new referrals and orientation for new members.
The Employment and Education Unit has
two coordinators who work together to help members achieve their goals. They also strongly encourage members to advocate for each other or themselves. The goal of this unit is to job develop by making phone calls, researching job opportunities and conducting presentations for potential employers. We also strive to develop different educational forums to be presented at the clubhouse for our members benefit.
The Kitchen and Snack Stop Unit has two coordinators who work together with the members to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. (dinner Wednesdays only) The duties of the unit also include the running of our snack stop and maintaining the cleanliness of the clubhouse space. In the snack stop members learn to use the register, count down a draw, and maintain the usual duties of running a store.
Each coordinator has a bottom line responsibility. However, each staff and member work together to run the units and clubhouse according to The International Center for Clubhouse Development standards.
We do not currently have any unit coordinator positions open.
